SA Class Girls 5A Rankings Ending 12-8-13

Getting close to the Holiday Break, almost everything remains real volatile. Which is good for anyone that enjoys watching girls basketball. So many teams are up and down that you can't make a logical or rational argument that sticks cause as soon as you think you got it figured out, wham, you DON'T.

One assertion anyone can make is that Brennan remains the top team overall in the city. I hear so many things that opposing teams could've, should've but in the end, Brennan has beaten the top challengers in the city. Brennan will be better off scrimmaging against each as far as competition rather than having to play in their District.

As far as Class 5A goes

10) Clark- After getting a big time win against Johnson propelling them to a Top 25 Ranking in TABC rankings, they falter in their first two District games against O'Connor and Stevens. A lot of good players and depth is helping them against weaker competition but hurting them overall when they play better teams. I said it before, in a close game who is the go to Player?

9) Brandeis- Surprising loss to OConnor takes them down the rankings. I expect them to be there at the end though. They have depth in all positions, experience and an exceptional freshman in Gabby Connally.

8) Churchill- At 19-1 they could be higher up if the competition had been tougher. But that doesn't mean they can't compete. They have momentum and a HC that can maybe pull off some upsets.

7) Stevens- They overcome a 19 point deficit to beat Clark. That showed a lot of character. They are needing some more depth to fully compliment their arsenal.

6) Wagner- They are hanging in without their best player on the court. You just don't know what you are going to get day in and day out. They had a good win over Johnson.

5) OConnor- They beat Clark and Brandeis to start off district 2-0. They should run off undefeated in first half of district till a show down with Stevens at the end of the year.

4) Johnson- Still trying to figure out this team. You have better odds in predicting the weather than predicting how this team is going to fare. They have a lot of talent to barely be beating some of the competition by just a little. They should be running away against some of the mediocre teams they have beaten.

3) Judson- They lost two games to Reagan. The best way I can explain this team is watching a football team that has a great defense, a great running game but can't pass the ball efficiently.

2) Reagan- Sometimes you have to look deeper than the numbers to see who the MVP of the young season is. You have a team that has 5 of the top 6 scorers are sophomores or 6 or the top 8. How many times have I heard a coach say, we are losing but we have a young team. How many players can pull off what Wendy Knight is doing? Playing with the majority of sophomores and making the team one of the top teams in the city.

1) Steele- I watched them over the weekend at the Hays Tournament. I thought I was watching a College team walking into the gym. They just play like they are bored cause it is so easy and effortless for them. If you look at some of the players numbers, they are definitely misleading. Their starters are playing less than half the games in a lot of instances. If they are focused, in a scenario where everything than can go wrong, goes wrong, they still beat 95% of the areas basketball teams.

A great week of girls basketball is coming up.
This weeks top games:

Reagan vs Wagner
Reagan vs Churchill
Stevens vs Brandeis
Stevens vs Jay
OConnor vs Jay
Johnson vs Steele
Judson vs Steele

SA Girls Basketball Class 5A Rankings Ending 11-27-13

After about 3 weeks in action going into Thanksgiving break, everything might seem more uncertain than when the season started.

A couple of things I look at when a team loses, is what they do to bounce back and how close did they lose by and the quality of teams they are playing.

Quality of teams can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
Coaching has a lot to do with the large picture but who has the main guns that can take over a game at a moments notice. Who has the kids that can go to work when the game is on the line?

Brennan is the top team in the area in any classification because they simply have more attributes that make up a good/great team. It makes it hard for a team to capitalize on a teams weaknesses when they don't possess many.

So you can also turn it around and say what weaknesses and how many does a team possess to gauge how good they really are?

Coaching, go to players, skilled and talented players, experience for both coaches and players, inside presence, outside shooters, ball handlers, chemistry, overall team athletism are some strengths and/or weaknesses in no particular order.

If I focus on the strengths and/or weaknesses of teams on paper and what I have seen, I come up with the following rankings.

Honorable mention: Roosevelt, Jay, Southwest, Madison

10) Clark- Has two loses to Churchill and a win over Johnson. Who is the go to player on this team? Come District time, is the coach going to depend and wait for someone to get hot?  A lot of depth, but it might get tough in a close game if the team is waiting for someone to step up and get hot.

9) OConnor- Dropped down with loses over the weekend and (not a good showing) loss to Johnson. They are lacking depth in the bench. They are a fun team to watch. You get the feeling something is going to happen at any moment. Maybe good, maybe bad.

8) Stevens- Had a close loss to Judson after a good weekend tournament showing in West Texas.

7) Brandeis- Took care of business in Floresville Tournament with relative ease. Beat Madison pretty handily. Shook off back to back losses from last week.

6) Churchill- They are slowly but surely building confidence. Their schedule has been soft but are still taking care of business. Thats what good teams do.

5) Wagner- Had a close loss to Brennan. Not much action.

4) Johnson- Beat OConnor pretty handily but turn around and get beat by Clark. If they can play the way they did against OConnor, they are tough to beat. They hit both offensive and defensive boards with reckless abandonment and attacked the basket with the same determination.

3) Reagan- Have a loss to Steele but win against Jay.

2) Judson- Beat Johnson and Stevens. They control the tempo with their rebounding and defense. You need to be patiently aggressive to beat their press and zone coupled with some timely shooting to beat this team.

1) Steele- They beat Reagan. Not much action. Gearing up for a good showing in December when they play some of the top teams.

San Antonio Girls Basketball Class 5A Rankings Week Ending 11-17-2013

So after 2 weeks, what have I learned? There is still plenty of basketball left in the season.
Team A beats Team B handily. Team B beats team C handily. So naturally Team A should beat Team C handily. Wrong.
That's the beauty of the Game. A lot of contenders that can beat each other any given night.

Let's start with giving Brennan a whole lot of RESPECT and CREDIT. They beat Steele and followed that feat by beating Judson this week alone. Last week they beat OConnor by over 50 POINTS in the Northside Tournament Championship! Those are my Top 3 teams in Class 5A...... Wow.....
Plus they already beat Stevens and Reagan as well. That's 5 of my Top 10 teams.

The only reason I haven't ranked Brennan is that they are 4A not 5A and they will not be able to play 5A teams in the playoffs to see who is the best in the city. Winning a State Championship will solidify that claim though.

This is getting complicated. Look at the top paragraph.
Honorable mention- Roosevelt (ready to crack Top 10 by beating Brandeis but loose to OConnor and Clark) Southwest (Only lost to Roosevelt but all other wins to non Top 10 teams) Madison (Losses to Brennan and Clark)

Tie for 10. Clark- Unchanged with wins over Brackenridge and Madison. Good young team that is playing for District and playoffs.

10. Jay- Drop down with losses to Judson, Wagner and Johnson. Make a good run in the Southside Tournament.

9. Churchill- I was impressed with the improvement from game 1 in the season. They beat Clark and lost to OConnor in the SAISD Tournament Championship. Need more inside presence to make a huge run at District.

8. Brandeis- Drop down with 2 losses in a row against Johnson and Roosevelt. Having trouble with athletic teams. I was surprised how much trouble they had against Johnson. Johnson primarily played with 5 guards the whole game. Spacing was a problem as well as overall intensity in the game that I saw them. Almost felt as if they were just going through the motions. Still though, a lot of talent in the Roster. Can rebound quickly. Let's see if they do.

7. Stevens- They have a tough loss to Reagan with losses to Wagner and Brennan

6. Johnson- They made it seem somewhat easy in beating Brandeis. Maybe when you have Gabby Bowie and Erica Sanders, it seems that way. Add 2016's Tara Molina and Sandy Ramirez ability to handle the ball, drive to the basket and score in opportune situations with steady shooting from 2015 Amy Jungbluth, you have 5 capable guards that can match up with many teams, guards for guards.

5, Reagan- They beat Stevens. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Reagan after losing a lot of seniors last year. One reason I didn't have them in my Top 10 in my initial ranking is that they are real young. But that has been a strong point. 4 of their top 5 players are 2016's. 6 of their Top 9 scorers are 2016's. Another Coach that deserves some major CREDIT! 7 straight wins after losing opening night to Brennan.

4.Wagner- Beat Antonian, the best Private School in the city pretty handily. Big game coming up with Brennan.

3. OConnor- Wins SAISD Tournament by beating Roosevelt and Churchill. 2016's Kasey Saldana and Victoria Pena are contributing nicely. They are not underrated anymore. Let's see how they handle being a contender as the days and weeks come by.

2. Judson- Beat Jay and lose to Brennan. Not an excuse, but were missing a key player when they lost. They will be in any game simply cause they play tough defense and are a great rebounding team.

1. Steele- Yes, they lost to Brennan. But maybe that is what they needed to stay focus. Reagan is up next. Let's see how they respond against a good team.

Games to watch this week: Tuesday 11-19-2013
Wagner vs Brennan
Steele vs Reagan
Judson vs Johnson

San Antonio Class 5A Girls Basketball Rankings

Of course, this is my personal rankings, just for fun.

Everything is only going to matter at the end when the most interesting and intriguing aspect of all this is if any team is going to be able to knock off Steele.

This is where I feel teams are right now after 1 week of action. It is still very young in the season and teams can drop in and out of my Top 10.
Reagan and OConnor making big jumps with their performances.

Honorable Mention: Madison(Dropping out of Top 10), Smithson Valley (Nice showing in Corpus Tourney), Churchill (Yet to play a top team) Southwest (Yet to play a top team)

10. Clark- Yes they got beat by the Top Team in the city, Steele, but remain unchanged.

9. Jay- It is hard to get a good feel for this team. I watched them play and it seems to me they are still looking for an identity. They lost to Wagner and Johnson.

8. Johnson- The lack of experienced Posts forced the coach to practically play all guards the whole game. Yet when I watched them play, they seemed out of rhythm with all that ball handling, speed and athleticism on the court. Had to come from behind to beat Jay.

7. Reagan- Makes a jump into the Top 10 by winning the Corpus Tournament. They also played tough against State 4A Ranked #1 Brennan

6.Stevens- Had a nice run in Northside Tourney coming within 4 points of State 4A Ranked #1 Brennan. It is only get better as the season moves on.

5. Wagner- Had a good showing in the Northside Tourney. You can never count this team out against anyone. They beat Stevens, Jay. Losses to OConnor and Stevens

4. OConnor- No matter they lost to Judson and Brennan, they beat a team that many thought were way better than them. When you beat teams you are supposed to beat is one thing, when you beat teams and surprise many, then you accomplish a lot.

3. Judson- Had a win against OConnor and had a nice run in Temple Tournament. Do they have enough shooters to beat the top two teams.

2. Brandeis- Inside game is strong offensively and defensively. Guards have the capability to drive and shoot beyond the arc. Had a real good run in Temple losing by 1 for their only loss. Team is still growing.

1. Steele- Had 1 game against Clark which they won handily. They have a showdown with Class 4A #1 Ranked Brennan on Tuesday.

Games to watch: Tuesday 11-12-2013
Johnson vs Brandeis
Stevens vs Reagan
Judson vs Jay
Steele vs Brennan

San Antonio's 2016 Basketball Class, "NO QUE NO"

Nobody can doubt the rich Hispanic culture that is embedded in the city of San Antonio. And nobody can deny the support the city gives to its NBA San Antonio Spurs. And one thing for sure is that no matter what his performance was in last seasons NBA finals against the Heat, Manu Ginobili is a beloved player here in San Antonio. His skills and talents aside, being Hispanic doesn't hurt from the predominantly Hispanic base here in San Antonio. Since the city is comprised of about 60% Hispanic, a lot of people can relate to Manu and bestow a cultural sense of Pride in him. A sense that he is part of them even though he is from Argentina.

Speaking of my own experiences when I was growing up, the Hispanic culture around me almost predicated young females to grow up tending to their Husbands and family. It can be a noble venture, my mom was my hero for doing everything for her kids and family under adverse situations all the while doing it with grace and relentless determination.

But as society changed, College has come to the forefront in aspirations parents have for their kids no matter if male or female. Maybe more so for females for a variety of reasons.

Many college aspirations for young Hispanic females are coming in terms of academics. But now more than ever, scholarships for female Hispanics are becoming a reality.  Something in my time and age that would probably been unthinkable.

And if you look around the city, you will find more and more Hispanic young ladies making names for themselves in the sporting world.

One Basketball class in particular stands out to me more than any other, maybe cause my daughter belongs in it, the 2016 Girls Basketball Class in San Antonio.

From top to bottom, the 2016 Class is producing some real good players of Hispanic descent. And a lot of them will have an opportunity to go to college because of BASKETBALL! Unheard of when I was growing up.

Many moons ago, the possibility of a young kid from Argentina making it to the NBA and/or the probability of a young Hispanic female going to College on a basketball scholarship would have its fair share of detractors. There would be a good amount on naysayers, abundance of doubters and a significant amount of people accepting the status quo as permanent.

But in an ironic twist, in the same manner my Proud Hispanic mom (like many others like her) embraced the status quo, they also enabled and paved the way for next generations to break from it.

If she would look at all the young Hispanic ladies that comprise of San Antonio's basketball class of 2016, she would take a line from George Lopez himself aimed at all the detractors, naysayers and doubters...... Proudly Stating......

NO QUE NO!

Dreaded Words "TORN ACL"

All the years that I have been involved in coaching youth basketball, one injury more than any other has Coaches and Parents at their edge of their seats when one of their kids sustains a knee injury.
It's almost as you count your blessings when you hear, sprained knee, overextended ligaments, etc

Hearing those words "Torn ACL" can have a traumatizing effect mentally and physically with everyone involved from the patient to parents to siblings to everyone in the circle of friends and coaches.

One of my players, Erin Wimberley 2016, sustained such injury a week ago today.

Although her journey to full recovery has just started, she is turning a negative situation to a positive one by letting others know her story. And maybe in the process, it can help someone in her situation better cope and deal with the recovery process.

Click link below for Erin Wimberley's story in her own words.

San Antonio HS Girls Preseason District 5A's Top Ten 2013-2014

First, we are still very early to make picks for who the Top Ten should be. But that being said, you have to start somewhere and sometime. Many factors will change the dynamics of the list as the season goes on.

Honorable Mentions, Churchill, Reagan, McArthur, Smithson Valley. All these teams have a real good chance of making the playoffs but will find it difficult to win District Championships.

10. Clark- They lost a lot of seniors but still have enough to make a good run. Positives: The majority of the players play in AAU Club teams. Kirsten Kramer 2015 should have a major impact on the teams fortunes. Questions: HS Varsity experience, What style of play is the Coach going to implement for a lot of young talent?, Who is going to be the go to player down the stretch of a tight game?

9. O"Connor- A strong core of returning players make them a team to contend. Positives: Strong savvy guards and an inside presence in Shelby Miller 2015. Deceiving very athletic starting lineup. Questions: Chemistry seems to be a lingering question, Who's team is it?, How deep is the bench?, Can anyone average more than 2 assists a game?

8. Madison- Could surprise a lot of teams. Very underrated point guard in Moriah Creswell 2015 can make a make a major contribution to their playoff hopes. Positive: Solid group of players that seem to be hungry.
Questions: Varsity experience, chemistry and confidence.

7. Stevens- No matter who is in the lineup, I am sure that their Coach is going to get the most of them. Positives: Point Guard Julia Rendon 2014 and Deleesha Monroe 2014 should make the difference on how far the team goes. Also Sammie Washington 2016 and EJ Garcia 2015 should be contributing significantly to the team playoff hopes. Questions: How deep is their bench?, Can they maintain and endure a long season?

6. Jay- You can never count Jay out in anything. They have a real good strong core inside and out. Positive: Coach is well respected and can have real good game plans against anyone. Destiny is gone but still have fire power to contend for the District Championship. Underrated player in Ashia McLaurin 2014 and Katelyn McCullar 2015 Questions: How is the team going to respond long term without Destiny running the show after 4 years?, Who is going to be the go to player?

5. Brandeis- I will not be surprised if this team moves up the list in the first few months. Positives: Deep team with a lot of AAU Club team experience. They have a strong inside presence in Mykel Costley 2014 and Morgan Williams 2015. They have a strong group of guards led by savvy and very capable point guard in Hannah Thompson 2014. Add freshman Gabby Connally to they mix and you have a strong contender not just for District but for City. Questions: Can they put away the likes of perennial contenders like Wagner and Steele?,Can they establish a defensive identity with their potential offensive game?

4.Wagner- When you have a player like Amber Ramirez 2016, you always are going to contend for anything that is thrown at you. Positives: Tough minded players and very athletic group. Add freshman Kiana Williams to the mix and anything goes. Questions: How is their inside game going to look with the graduation of Tesha Smith?, How deep is their bench with battle tested players?

3. Johnson- Even though they have lost some major talent, they still have a lot of talent. Positives: Gabby Bowie 2014 seems to be ready for a breakout year. Erica Sanders 2015 should help give a 1, 2 punch. Tara Molina 2016 and Sandy Ramirez 2016 give the team depth in the guard compartment. Questions: With the departure of Davenport, how is the inside game going to look?, How deep is the bench going to be?

2. Judson- Arguably one of the most athletic teams outside Houston and Dallas areas. Positive: Whole nucleus of starters returning to make a run. Strong rebounding team. Very strong inside game with Simone Fields 2014 seeming unstoppable. Capable and seasoned Point Guard Samantha Allen 2014 running the team. Strong lock down defenders. Add transfer Belle Tovar 2016 to the mix and the potential goes up exponentially that the team can contend not only for a District Championship but City as well. Questions: Can the team as a whole get over the hump against Wagner?, Can they avoid scoring slumps?

1. Steele- Returning State Finalists with possibly the best player in the city (playing HS ball) in McKenzie Calvert 2014. Positives: Loaded!! Enough said Questions: How are they going to respond with the departure of Kyra Lambert 2015.

This list only contains 5-A San Antonio schools.

SA Islanders Hannah Murray

What would you say is the most important thing about playing the game of basketball? Defense, offense, rebounding, steals, shooting etc.

Somehow the teams that can do the most of the above mentioned points and are proficient in a lot of wide array of basketball skill sets, are the teams that are most consistent in winning on the court.

But to win in the game of life, players have to take lessons learned on the court and apply them to life. Sometimes players have a unique sense of bringing what has been learned and taught in life, by parents and family, to the game and to the team.

Hannah Murray is one such player. Let's talk about Respect. Hannah brings to the game an out most respect for her teammates and Coaches. Everyone respects her as a Person and in turn she is continuing to work hard in her game to gain Respect in her skills and abilities. Respect the game, your opponents, the referees, the fans and your teammates.

Let's move on to Attitude. Hannah brings to the game an unselfish mindset and a teammate first mentality. She sets the bar high with her team that it takes everyone to contribute one way or another to be successful. Some players have larger roles than others but everyone is just as important. If you have a car with the best engine, what good is it if you don't have a steering wheel than can take you where you want. She always cooperates with Coaches and teammates and contributes in any way she can.

What about Character? Hannah Murray is the sweetest kid you ever going to meet. She is humbled, shy and modest. Yes to be successful in any sport, you have to have a killer instinct without a doubt. But Hannah's unyielding demeanor  can be learned by a lot of "Hot Dog" athletes in this day of age as well. Learn to Win or Lose graciously. What does it matter if you are the "Best" at what you do and nobody CARES!!!

She possesses a certain Persona that radiates a Positive outlook on what seems everything in Life, no matter what.. She never complains and is always complimenting no matter how big or how small ones accomplishment.

And in turn she is one of the most respected players in the Organization. She primarily plays with the White team but is willing to help out the Black team at a moments notice. She has taken the White team on her back at different key points during the season and has shown signs of down right "Not in my House" Attitude in helping the Black team. When it comes to Playing, her character and persona remain the same. I have seen her in many occasions stuff or block a shot straight back to a players face practically making the player swallow the ball and at the same time use her same hand to cover her mouth as to say "Sorry, did I just do that" and then turn around right back and stuff that same player again. Seconds anyone.

Her role was important in that all these attributes she possesses solidified the team that was competing for the PrimeTime Sports National Championship. A team that easily could have been a collective group of one man shows, was instead a team of full of players playing for something greater than themselves. Hannah Murray, true to herself played hard, never complained, served lunch to a couple of players and then some, all with Class and dignity.

Only time will tell how much and how far basketball will take Hannah Murray. But I can tell you that with the skill set she has acquired in the Game of Life, she will go far in her endeavors.

Hannah Murray doesn't live for the stats in the Sports pages, but it won't surprise me that one day in the future you will be reading about her on the Front Page news about her great accomplishments!

Hannah Murray helped this Islanders team be complete and in turn make it a special group of young ladies.....

SA Islanders Essays on Female Minority Leaders

Players for the SA Islanders AAU basketball teams were asked to write a essay on any Minority Female Leader in any field like politics, sports, business, film and art, etc.

This gave them a chance to broaden their horizons and expand their knowledge on a variety of fronts concerning personal struggles, overcoming adversity, dealing with highs and lows, inspirations, dedication and life lessons.
And maybe in the process, they could get a better understanding that a lot of the Female Leaders they look up to today, were at one point in their lives just ordinary kids like themselves with dreams and goals for the future.

All the girls in the team that contributed with essays did a great job of hitting home what was asked of them. Two Essay papers stood out from all.
April Matthew's paper on Marie Ferdinand-Harris took top Honors. Brianna Lane's essay on Ileana Ros-Lehtinen took runner up.

Here is some excerpts from April's essay:
I chose Marie Ferdinand-Harris as my role model because she is a humble woman who plays basketball, has a strong love for God and gives back to the community. Her life story inspired me because I love her work ethic. I love how she never gave up. I love how she is always positive. I love how she always wanted to get better. I like that she would spend hours and hours in the gym working on her weaknesses, making her weaknesses her strengths. I like how she always balanced her time between God, Family, basketball and education. The main thing I like about her other than basketball is her strong love for God. She reads her Bible and prays every day. Marie acknowledges God for everything he has done and is thankful for everything.
I am blessed and honored that I got to meet one of my role models. Meeting her made me think about life and how I should always stay positive and let God do his job to make me a better person. She taught me that not only in basketball you learn how to play and become mentally and physically tough, but that you learn how to grow, open your mind and to have self confidence. Marie Ferdinand-Harris is a true role model and leader. I'm so glad I got to know her and do my paper on her. But who knew that doing a research paper on a role model can have a life experience for the better?
Following is some excerpts from Brianna's essay:
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is  a role model to me because she started off her life kind of in a difficult spot. with her parents having to move because of Castro's communism and having to start their lives all over again and be taught as an American.
Another reason Ileana is a good role model is because she not only helped out where she came from but she also helped out the other parts of the United States. As her being part of Congress, she was helping out more like how the president would be helping the world. Ileana was helping solve problems that couldn't be fixed for years and now she is fixing them in less time, than it would take for them to figure out the problem.
What I have learned from this project and from Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is that, you may think you know what you want to do for the rest of your life but, one little event in your life can change your mind on everything that you thought that you wanted.
What I have learned from this project and Ileana, I am going to take the lessons that she faced and I learned about and use them to help me understand and see life in a different perspective. This makes me rethink what I had already planned for my life already. It has made me want to see the world in a way where I can make the world a better place or find a way to help a person with a problem that I can fix.
Ileana is a role model and inspiration but she has also helped me open my eyes and see the problems that were going on in this world. From this day froward Ileana is my new role model and I will live by her inspiration and use her lesson for my use. Ileana started off with nothing and started off in a bad spot as a child and worked hard to be a member of Congress. There is no better role model than the first Hispanic woman to be in the US House of Representatives, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

Following is a picture of the SA Islanders after a long hard practice. Kneeling in front, from left to right is Brianna Lane, Coach, April Matthews.

 Great job ladies!

SA Islanders Bri Soliz

To the best to my knowledge and recollection, one day out of the blue around September of last year I received an email from a dad from Eagle Pass inquiring about tryouts for our girls basketball team. Now to be honest and no offense to my wife, the first thought that came to my mind was "Eagle Pass?", is this a joke from someone we know. Needless to say I replied with a phone call within minutes of reading the email.
The conversation was short and one that I have had with parents plenty of times. Hey coach, I have a daughter, looking for a team and when are tryouts?

Little did I know, unlike the conversation,  the Total Package Bri Soliz displayed in our first encounter was Huge. But right away I knew that I had a challenge in front of me. Anyone that sees Bri Soliz on the court will come around with the same conclusion, that kid has a lot of potential.

How many times have you heard that statement, "Full of Potential"? Yes that is great but how do you make her great and live up to that potential.

It starts with the Parents. And in Bri Soliz, her dad is an integral part of her life and basketball. She lives in San Angelo and used to play with a team that she clearly was the dominant player.
I didn't know that our paths had crossed before. The setting was in Frisco 2012, when the Islanders were making a run at the Nationals Championship. Bri Soliz and her dad were there. She played great for her team but her team came up way short. Instead of leaving home after her team was eliminated, they stayed to watch and learn as the tournament played out.
Aaaahhhh, which brings me to another ingredient in fulfilling potential. Sometimes you can't Play yourself into a player, you have to patiently Watch and Learn, Feel the emotions, Absord Knowledge, Get Hungry....
That's what exactly what Bri Soliz and her dad did watching the Islanders make it the title game.
And in the process, their game plan for the future changed and in turn, it made the future Islanders team a better, stronger team.

Anywhere and for any team Bri Soliz played in San Angelo, she was going to be the Main Gun. She was going to score her 20 points.
But that was not good enough for her and her Dad. Sacrifice, commitment and dedication are the next ingredients of fulfilling Potential. How many Parents will drive from Eagle Pass to San Angelo and back to San Antonio for practices!?!?

Bri Soliz and her Dad are great examples of what make the Islanders a special place.

Bri Soliz quickly bought an infectious upbeat demeaner to the teams. She is very strong spiritually and has a very strong Work Ethic. Again ingredients to fulfilling Potential. But its still not the final piece. Oh no, by no means.

Mental Toughness..... not only for the players but for the Parents as well.
I pushed Bri Soliz like no other. She is the second youngest of any player in the Organization. Yet she received a lot of tough love from the coaches especially from me. A lot of Parents driving all that while, used to their daughter being pampered and cuddled up to could have said and done a lot things detrimental to the team. I remember having a conversation to Bri Soliz's dad about what I planned to do to help her grow and develop. A lot of Parents would see it as demotion moving their daughter to another team in the Organization, Bri's dad saw it as an Opportunity.
As I pushed her tougher and harder, things could have gotten sour quickly.
Looking and Focusing only at Potential does just that.  Focusing on commitment, dedication, sacrifice and work ethic will get you Results!!!

At PrimeTime Nationals, Bri Soliz was the youngest on the team. As an 8th grader she was playing against 9th/10th graders. Not an easy feat to accomplish. Along the way she held her own and displayed a maturity beyond her age. To top it off, she led the team and blew up and scored 20 points in one game.  Which led all scorers in any of the 8 games played. That's impressive when you have the likes of Belle Tovar and Lexy Torres as your teammates. That's also impressive being only an 8th grader playing like she is in 10th grader.

But what is more impressive is that she could have Potentially played with her former team and possibly score 20 points a game and come up way short again, but she and her dad chose to sacrifice and play with a team they were cheering on just a year ago. Resulting in helping that very same team, the  SA Islanders, get over the hump winning the Championship Title.

Because of Bri Soliz, her commitment, her dedication, her sacrifice, her work ethic, her mental toughness, I wouldn't mind if she tells everyone back home or anyone else for that matter that she plays for the SA Islanders, the San Angelo Islanders that is.

Bri Soliz is another example of what makes the Islanders a special group of ladies.

SA Islanders Belle Tovar

Perception is a funny thing.
My first remembrance of Annabelle Tovar was in Oklahoma Nationals back when the girls were still in elementary going to 6th grade. Her style of play and her demeanor was very intimidating to me much less than the young girls that had to face her.
As a youngster all the way to middle school, her AAU team, the Lady Hoops, were a juggernaut. The Lady Hoops were National Champs in Florida in elementary. Imagine that much success as a youngster.
The team went on to make a run as one of the most successful around the state. If they lost, it was because they didn't have their full roster or it was in a big time National event. You can probably count in your hand how many games they lost in 3 to 4 years.

Perception might be that Belle Tovar being a product of that environment and her former teams success is that of being brash, trash talker, bragger, uncoachable etc. How many players and Parents if experiencing that same success wouldn't be. Heck I have seen players and Parents with less than 10% accomplishments than Belle Tovar be just that.

Reality is the Belle Tovar in spite of all that success and glory is comfortable in her own skin, a leader, modest, nice and very coachable.
When she joined the team over 2 years ago, she and her Parents didn't have any demands. How many players and Parents in the AAU world with her Resume wouldn't?
She wanted an opportunity to earn playing time and to prove herself to her teammates and coaches.
When she came aboard, the team roster was heavy in players. She never complained about playing time. She just took upon herself to work twice as hard.
At one point her dad offered for her to play with the Islander team still developing. Sacrificing for the better of the team. Her dads words were "It doesn't matter what team she plays with at this point, Belle has to prove what she can do'"

Imagine a kid with this extensive Resume having to prove all over again for the betterment of the Organization.

Sacrifice....
That's what makes this team special.

Belle Tovar has taken full advantage of her opportunity and earned her place as an Islander.
She didn't do it by telling people how good she is, she let her game do all the talking All Summer Long!

Perception might be one thing, but Reality is Belle Tovar with hard work and strong work ethic has earned recruiting letters and interest this summer from Nebraska of Omaha, Wichita State, New Mexico, Tulsa, Houston Baptist, Rice, University of Washington to name a few. And that is just to start.
Perception might be that's good...... but somewhere you will find Belle continuing to work twice as hard to prove herself.

That's what makes Belle Tovar special.

SA Islanders Tara Molina

Tara Molina has been an Islander since day 1 back when the girls were incoming 6th graders.

I first briefly laid my eyes on her when she was trying out for a team that my daughter played on before the formation of Leaders Express Organization. At the time I was hoping she joined that team. She didn't, which was good for the future of the Islanders.

I next saw her play against the Lady Hoops team. If anybody knows anything about girls AAU basketball, then you will know that Lady Hoops team was filled with the best players for their age group and then some. It was only when Tara was in 5th grade, but you could see her showing her tremendous skill set. It was if it was 1 player against 5,6,7,8 players if you counted the Lady Hoops bench.
Her skill set at 5th grade was higher than most High School girls is right now. Let me repeat that in case in didn't sink in. HER SKILL SET AT 5TH GRADE WAS HIGHER THAN MOST HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS RIGHT NOW!

When she joined the Islanders, it cemented our success for the future.

But not everything was perfect. Due to UIL restrictions, she couldn't play with the Islander team she was supposed to play.
She willingly sacrificed for the betterment of the Organization and played for the Islander team that had players still honing and developing their skills. She did this, all the while, with her trademark smile. And in doing this she had some spectacular performances against the likes of the Finest, Sophia Young, Jayhawks, Crossfire, Push the Rock and none more better than against the Lady Hoops.
The setting is a couple of years ago, in North Dallas. The Lady Hoops had combined with the Dream Team to form a National team. There was at least 7 D1 kids in that teams roster including our very own Belle and Vikki. We had a scrappy hard working team led by Tara and Sandy Ramirez.
What Tara Molina did in that game was one of the best AAU performances I had the joy of Coaching and seeing. It was in short.... wait for it...... wait for it....... LEGENDARY!

After there was no issue regarding UIL restrictions, she still had to wait for her time even after all those performances. The team was real guard heavy and she had to come off the bench for limited action.
On top of that, I was real hard on her to get better and not settle.
Any other player could have seen it differently. She could have gone and played with Any Team and probably started and received a lot more glory.

Tara Molina just wanted to be an Islander....
That's what makes this team special.

So fast forward to PrimeTime Nationals 2013.
She helped jump start the team by leading the team in scoring the first couple of games. And Yes I am still hard on her to push her to get better, and Yes she is still shy and way too modest about her game and Yes after winning the Championship, I could see her with her trademark smile.......

Almost as to tell the whole world,

Its Good to be an Islander!

SA Islanders Erin Wimberley aka "Winner"

Erin Wimberley aka "Winner" has been an Islander from day 1 of the Organization's inception.

She is an epitome of what makes this Organization go. And in turn, the same Organization is living up to its name of Leaders Express!
Besides working hard at her academics, her GPA is through the roof, she has patiently worked hard for her opportunity.
She has battled through a lot of injuries and worked hard towards attaining goals. She was coming off the bench the last two years behind one of South Texas most dynamic posts.
This season, she finally had her opportunity to start.

I challenge anyone to show me a better team player. Never worrying about stats or publicity, just trying to do her Best for her teammates, her coaches, her friends, her family and Parents and more importantly for herself.

If Patience is a Virtue, then Erin "Winner" exemplefies what Leaders Express is about.

2013 PrimeTime Nationals JV Girls Champions

So how can you properly describe the feelings, the emotions, the atmosphere, the tension, the highs, the lows, the drama, the enormity of the moment.........

I know I was feeling upbeat before the tournament started. I knew once the tourney started, it was going to be a whirlwind. Although the setting at the IAD Center was all basketball, it was missing something that only the Frisco Fieldhouse can give. The feeling of when you take a breath of air, all you take in is Basketball. But we had to do the best under the circumstances.

I was anxious to get started to see which team was going to show up. All season we had been doing dribbling drills, basketball drills,  strength and conditioning, scrimmaging boys, playing up, instilling discipline and attention to detail. All that is great, but what will be our Girl's Mindset going into the first game be.
1st game finally came and the girls showed me they came to play.  But a lot of teams were making their own statements on the court. Some in such a big way that the buzz around the gym was of appointing early favorites right from the get go.
But not to be outdone, our girls started to get some praise early on. "Coach, you have a well coached team. Your girls have great fundamental bball skills."  I knew that the true test was going to be under adverse conditions.
Our girls didn't let up the rest of pool play. Nothing spectacular, just taking care of business. A lot of growing up and a defensive mindset started to grow. While other teams were winning in spectacular fashion, we were just quietly and efficiently moving along.

Once bracket play started, we were in a tough predicament. The majority of 1st place teams from pool play received 1st round byes, particularly the teams making a lot of noise in pool play. Our style of play is hard to sustain for any team for 1 game much less 3 games. Plus we only had 8 players. Was that going to be enough? We were going to have to just do with what we had.

My thoughts were of lets just get this thing started. I was excited for the girls but I was extremely relaxed and confident in our teams ability.
The girls didn't let up at the start of bracket play. My sense was the Chemistry was good. Our team defense was starting to show in a Big way. Coach Drew and I pushed the girls hard to stay focused and put attention to detail.

For me one of the turning point for our chances to go far came with one simple adjustment in defense that after 3 or 4 games, our girls finally started grasping. Coach Drew was endlessly pounding into their fabric, into their DNA, make your player GO LEFT! (or Opposite their strong hand) And it wasn't just for the guards, it went for the Posts as well. Make players beat you doing something they are not comfortable with. What a concept. That concept intertwined with with our pressure defense made our team that much stronger.

Late Saturday night at 8pm was going to be a major test to our conditioning since we already had played twice and the team we were playing only once. Before the game, I overheard opponent's Parents pointing at the Poster Boards on the wall where the Brackets were posted. They were completely overlooking us and looking ahead to see what their toughest competition was going to be once they took care of us. Trash talking. Wow. Almost as if we should just call it quits before the game started. Aaaahhhh, just exactly the ammunition I needed to put in the girls mindset before the game.

Our girls started slow and the other team started hot. Their fans were going frantic but I was proud of the girls. I didn't see anyone flinch. Although we were losing and were in a big hole, we were fighting and playing hard. Things were not going well but our girls never flinched. Patience, here it comes.....
Keep working, keep playing hard, keep believing, keep clawing, keep scratching, keep up the pressure, keep forcing them left, and Boom it came!
The other team started getting frustrated, starting losing focus enabling us to make a huge run...
Islander Basketball anyone.....

But the Big Lady hadn't sung yet and we were coasting along. 9 point lead with a minute and a half went to only 2 point lead in 30 seconds. Tension filled the gym. Fans were yelling, Coaches were yelling, the court was packed and electricity filled the air. The girls weathered the storm and pulled it out with some clutch free throws and hard defense stops.
Yeahh Baby, we are in the Final 4. That's exactly what came to my mind.

It's late, we are all tired. Let's get these ladies fed and ready for bed.

The next morning came and I was pumped up for the girls.
We were playing a well coached good shooting team. We needed to put the emotions of winning 3 games the day before aside and focus. What will we still have in the tank, mentally and physically after already playing 6 games. The way we were running or lack of running, it seemed at certain points of the game that we were playing in the moon. Houston we might have a problem. Blast off hasn't taken place and it's already 28 minutes of game time past due. 2 minutes left and only a 2 point lead. Basketball instincts take over,  strong guard handles, taking care of the ball, strong defense, huge rebounds and huge free throws seal our fate. Did we survive or did we just do what we needed to do? At this point who cares. We are in the Championship game.

How much do we have in the tank? Are we running in fumes? About 2 1/2 hours till show time and my thoughts and mindset leave the gym and Dallas area altogether.

My thoughts took me back in time to San Antonio. All those hard workouts the girls had endured. All the hard training, hard work and sweat comes down to this. Trying to push their buttons to make them better players, better individuals. Pushing them to the limit mentally and physically and testing them under Pressure to see how they react. I knew coming this far was not good enough, not this time.

I wanted to Win, Coach Drew wanted to Win and we made sure the girls knew what we came down here for. We didn't want them to believe, we just wanted them to Win! There was no other option.

That's what makes these girls so special...
The game started tight and slow. Almost like two great boxers feeling each other out. No one wanted to do mistakes yet that is exactly why mistakes were being done. It almost felt any team could just explode at any given moment. Players fought hard on both teams. A lot of great defense on both sides made for a lot of mistakes. Excitement and anticipation filled both sides of the stands. Other teams, other coaches, other fans filled the court to witness what was going to happen.
The little team that can........ WON!

SA Islanders are the 2013 PrimeTime National JV Girls Division Champions!

Maybe I didn't give our experience any justice in my words. Just take a look at the Picture, maybe that will do a better job. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

That's the Word

Have you heard......

Sandy Ramirez (2016) is back with the SA Islanders. Although petite like her counterparts, she brings and packs a big punch that compliments the Islanders teams. She is versatile, aggressive, quick, handles the ball well and is finding consistency in her shot. She is capable of turning a game around offensively and defensively with her relentless play. The Word is that she is at the gym training, working on her game and conditioning at least half the day everyday!

The Word is Erin Wimberley (2016) aka Winner is quietly emerging as a bona fide big in the San Antonio area and Texas to hoot, with her AAU performances against some tough competition. How is it that she can compete in a high level in the AAU circuit against level of competition superior to High School Ball? The Word is Confidence!  Hmmm...maybe her High School team should take note! She is working in the mornings to improve her conditioning and her game. Take notice, one of the most underrated players is hungry.

April Mathews (2015) and Bobbi Timmons (2016) are finally healthy again and working to add to their game. April has basically worked herself up to the Islanders Black Team. The Word is, expect big things to come! She is steadily improving to become solid like a Rock. Bobbi is on a mission. Her shot is pure and range is deadly. The Word is she continues to work on her shot and game.

What do you have when you wake up Monday to Friday around 5am to start training at 615am to 945am? The Word is Commitment! Alexia Torres (2016), Bri Lane (2016), Frankie Owens (2015), Arianna Craver (2015), Tara Molina (2016), Bri Soliz (2017), Hannah Murray (2015), Ashley Adaszczyk (2019) have been hitting it hard. The dedication and commitment these young ladies have displayed is remarkable.
Their High School coaches should take note. The word is Frankie, Bri Lane, Bri Soliz, Arianna, Ashley and Hannah are having stellar, productive AAU seasons.

Julie Hernandez (2016), Lunden Patterson (2015), Kishon Mackey (2016) are growing and showing positive signs of improvement. The Word is they all have a legitimate chance of contributing a lot of minutes with their High School teams. Gabby Bernal (2015) is helping lead her High School team to an undefeated Summer League schedule. Erin Ashley (2016) aka Awesome is slowly but surely coming back from injuries. Don't count her out in anything she puts her mind to. She is resilient and tough as nails.

In Corpus Christi, the word is two of the best young players are putting some time in the gym. Victoria Salinas is hard at work in the mornings doing conditioning and skill work plus added training in the evenings. Alexis Worley is participating in UT and A&M camps plus training in the evenings. Their High School coach should count his blessings. The sparkling city by the bay should have some players that sparkle when High School ball starts up.

Belle Tovar (2016), where is she at? The Word is anywhere the gym is available. Working and fine tuning on her game. Never satisfied, looking to add to her resume. There is never enough time...

Tovar is  part of the starting back court with Molina and Torres leading the way, along with Ramirez and Timmons complimenting at a moments notice, having Monster performances in the AAU circuit.

So now you have heard........ TAKE NOTE!
THAT'S THE WORD.....

FAB 4

Looking at the SA Islanders girls basketball team, you will find players that are not only teammates in the same AAU organization but teammates in their respective High Schools.

Alexis and Vikki will be together at Ray High School in Corpus Christi. You have the Big 3 from Smithson Valley, Erin aka Awesome, Erin aka Winner and Guinevere. You have the little 3 from Marshall, Lil Bri, Lexy and Bobbi.

But the most intriguing combination of players come from Clark.
The FAB 4, as they like to be called, April, Lunden, Frankie and Arianna, have a unique relationship.
They all are shy especially around the old folks, but they all have their own outgoing personalities.
Who is the smartest, who has the best dance moves, who is the fastest, who likes to read? Don't know for certain, but I do know basketball brings them together, establishing memories that will be with them a long time.

Girls Basketball...........

Hard work, sweat, frustration, jubilation, pain, invincible, long hours, dedication, low times, good times, low point, high point, agony of defeat, thrill of victory, rivalries, teammates, losing, Champions, Parents yelling, Parents bragging, disappointment, Proud Parents!!!!!

Support Girls Basketball,
It's Fabulous, It's Fabulous, It's Fabulous, It's Fabulous. Yes 4 times over or should I just put it.....

Girls Basketball,
FAB 4

SA Islanders 2013 AAU season

The LEADERS EXPRESS ORGANIZATION is fielding two high school teams, Black and White, this AAU season under the SA Islanders name.

The  SA Islanders Black team is comprised mainly of freshman players and will be participating in Varsity divisions in a lot of "Showcase" tournaments around the state.
The Black team is led by the freshmen trio backcourt, Alexia Torres, Belle Tovar and Tara Molina.  The starting backcourt forms one of the toughest freshman guard combinations in San Antonio and South Texas. Any one of the trio can go off on offense at any one time during the game, with Alexia and Belle adding an extra defensive prowess to the mix making it tough on opposing teams. They all possess nice handles with Tara having some of the smoothest in all of the City. All three are also slashers and can get to the basket creating their own shots or for their teammates. Lexy is the heart and soul of the team. She has a great court sense and vision and can pass on target with either hand. She is super quick and shifty. Belle is a "Player", tough competitor, has downtown range and doesn't like to lose. She is strong and can mix it up with posts. Tara can pump up the crowd with her moves and passes. Even though all three players can do the same things, all bring their own distinct personal flavor to their game. They are at their best in the open court. They all can hit from 3's or shoot off the dribble. When they get in a groove, they are a fun group to watch.

The front court features 5'11" freshman Erin Wimberley aka "Winner". A very underrated player because she doesn't come across flashy. She is steady, methodical, skilled and a very hard worker and highly coachable. She can hit the baseline jumper and is a very good passer.
Another freshman, Victoria Salinas compliments the team with her hard work ethic and love of the game. One of the best pure shooters from 10 to 15 feet out. She possesses a nice, smooth, effortless shot. Also has a good basic fundamental skill set enabling her to play various positions. She is constantly working to expand her offensive arsenal.
8th graders, Alexis Worley and Bri-Anna Soliz, will surprise a lot of people when they realize how young they really are. For starters Alexis at 6'3' and Bri have a presence about them that not many 8th graders possess. Alexis is easily one of the best post passers you are going see. She is aggressive and runs the court well. Once she gets more experience under her belt, she will be tough on both sides of the court.  Once she shores up her shot around the basket, she will be tough to guard. Bri Soliz is super strong and has a very good skill set for any grade division much less for an 8th grader. She can hit midrange shots making it tough to guard. A very hard worker with a positive attitude. Her footwork is exceptional for someone so young.
With the majority of the team being 8th/9th grade and playing Varsity, it will make for an interesting season.

The SA Islander White team is working hard to be a team to be reckon with. They will be playing in the JV division primarily but will get a taste of Varsity in a few tournaments. A lot of the girls in the White Team are new to the AAU world. The majority of the players have played less than a year total in AAU ball.
The front court is tough. Emerging players, April Matthews and Arianna Craver, bring intensity, hustle, high energy and a lot of potential. They can cover a lot of space in defense. They are working to step up their game with fundamentals. They are slowly but surely working on their games to make names for themselves.
At 5'11", Hannah Murray has grown leaps and bounds since joining the team last year.  She is on the path of becoming a great shot blocker. She is working hard to get stronger and finish around the basket.  Shayla Pollard can become a beast if she continues to practice hard. She possesses a very good skill set, footwork and confidence in her game. Another Post is Teanna Peavy, a very athletic player. She is another track star in her own right and is working on her game to help out both teams in what is needed. Rebounding and defense is what she brings to the table right now. Guinevere Rodriguez rounds out the posts. She has grown figuratively and literally. She made large strides last year on both the defense and offense of ends. She is working on getting stronger and finishing around the basket. She can run the court as well.
New to the team are guards Lunden Patterson and Gabby Bernal. Lunden has a nice stroke beyond the arc and good mid range shot as well. She has a good understanding of the game and is a smart player. Gabby who is new to AAU is savvy and moves without the ball well. They both are working to get stronger, establishing a higher skill set and helping the team in whatever the team needs. Guards Brianna Lane and Julie Hernandez play the point. They both are fast and create havoc on the defense. They both are working on their shooting and range to elevate their game. They have come a long way in a very short time. They should grow tremendously overall this AAU season. Frankie Owens plays the 2 spot and can play the point as well if needed. Her shot beyond the arc needs to be respected. She is working hard on adding to her arsenal which include getting to the basket, creating shots and distributing the ball. Another point, Ashley Adaszczyk is only in 6th grade. She can break ankles with her exceptional ball handles. She is working on getting stronger and finding consistency in her shot. She will be one of the best players in San Antonio when she gets to High School, period. The heart and soul of the White Team is Erin Ashley aka "Awesome". When I first saw her on the court, she probably was one of least fundamental players on the team. Now through hard work, drive, desire and dedication, She is the one of the White Teams most fundamental player.

These young ladies from both teams exemplify what SA Islanders are all about.
Great students, hard workers, great kids and future LEADERS!!!!

Combine that with Great Supportive Parents and a hard working Coaching staff in Coach Oscar Antopia and Coach Drew Jefferson, good things are in store for SA Islanders, EXCLAMATION POINT.

Love is in the air...

It is Valentines Day and Love is in the air.

Except when the girls high school basketball playoffs kickoff later today. Then competitive juices will start flowing and watch out. Expect some combative back and forth action between all the teams remaining.

Fans will be yelling and griping at the Referee's, at the Coaches decisions, at the players, at the food, at the no parking available etc
Coaches will be yelling at the Refs, at the players. Players might be yelling at other players, at their own teammates......

Love in the air, no more.

San Antonio is left with the top eight 5A schools vying for an opportunity to get to the Big Dance, the Final Four tournament in Austin, TX.

Steele vs Judson
What a match up in athleticism. There is no question that defense is going to rule but who is going to muster enough offense to win the game. There is probably going to be over 40 turnovers combined between both teams. Who can respond to the pressure? If it goes to the end of the game, who has the biggest names and players in the team? The edge goes to Steele even though Judson won earlier in the year. Revenge will be on Steele's mind.

Churchill vs Jay
A match up in two of the best point guards and leaders in the city ending their storied high school careers as they both are seniors. Jay has a deeper and stronger supporting cast but Churchill has enough to beat anyone especially with their floor leader at the helm. What is considered two of the best girls High School coaches squaring off against each other, that in itself should be worth the price of admission. Conventional wisdom will tell you the team with the deeper bench will win. Unless the other team has probably the city's  MVP on its side.

Reagan vs Stevens
Reagan has beaten a depleted Stevens team a few times this year. But the Stevens team is a stronger squad than earlier in the year. Stevens offense needs to exploit Reagan's inside. Defensively they need to try and get Reagan to get in a running game. Reagan needs to do what they have done all year. No flash, no pizazz, no show off, Just Win! They always find a way. A different player seems to step up when they need it. Reagan has the edge simply because they are the defending champ. To beat the champ, don't let it go to the scoring tables. You need to knock them out. Stevens has a decent chance because Reagan might take them lightly since they already beat them 3 times.

Wagner vs Clark
Until last year, Wagner and Jay dominated the city landscape in girls High School basketball.
That means Tradition will work heavy in Wagner's favor.  Coaching experience in big games will strongly be in Wagner's side. How many D1 commits have come out from both schools in the last 5 years? Overall Talent, big name and known players favors Wagner. But if there is a year that someone can change that, it is right now with this Clark team. Somehow they have underperformed but that could be a good thing. It could be the best is still to come. We haven't seen it consistently from them all year. Clark's guards have to play strong and hit big shots. They have to work the middle without turning over the ball over. Clark needs to try and get Wagner's big girls in trouble. Instead of the other way around. Is Wagner going to have team Chemistry? It seems to me Wagner will come out strong to knock out Clark early. Can Clark withstand and maybe take it to Wagner early themselves. The edge goes to Wagner but don't count out Clark especially if Wagner's big girls get in foul trouble.

So Happy Valentines Day!
